Work Package 4: Intervention design tailored to local condition


To design feasible and context-specific interventions to reduce unwanted pregnancy and repeat abortion in order to reduce unwanted pregnancy and repeat abortion.


This work package corresponds to the second research phase.

Based on the experience from the FP6 PAFP project and the results of the critical review and the detailed situation analysis (WP2 and WP3), the specific interventions will be developed in close cooperation with local research partners and negotiation with policy makers at each level government and health managers of the selected hospitals. The proposed interventions should be scientifically valid and feasible to be implemented in China. The needs of financial and human resources and the implication of implementing the project intervention  have to be assessed and specified,  and with attention to sustainable development of the interventions with little or no further support from the research team once the project is completed.

A three-arm cluster  randomized, controlled intervention study will be conducted in 90 hospitals (clusters) in 30 divisions. Those hospitals will be selected according to inclusion criteria.

Leading partner & timeline

UG-ICRH (Partner 1) will lead this Work Package. CSFP, FU, NRIFP and WCSUH (Partner 2, 3, 4 and 5) will assist with local negotiation to ensure the feasibility of the interventions. WP4 starts from project month11 till month 17.
